Cleanroom Design Lab, led by David Winston, was hired as the exclusive architectural designer for the Museum of Sex in NY. We converted a 2 storey existing retail space on 5th Avenue into a complete 12,000 sq. ft. sex museum with three galleries and a bookstore.

The facade of the museum was created as a temporary installation to celebrate the museum opening in the fall of 2002. The design consisted of a nylon power mesh over undulating aluminum ribcage that simulate the movement of a breathing torso.

The dynamic design approach of David Winston has moved the needle in creative office culture across the USA. “Office furniture and workplace culture can be so boring”, Winston recalls thinking prior to Co-Founding furniture company SCALE 1:1 with partner Clara Reis.

Cleanroom Design Lab, led by David Winston, wins competition to design the roof top pavilion at the TWT

The ninety story Trump World Tower located next to the United Nations Building in New York will be adorned by this solar and wind powered steel and glass structure. David Winston and Cleanroom studio were also commissioned to design the enormous 15,000 sq. ft. penthouse which is connected to the roof by a soaring glass elevator.

Architecture Design by David Winston, Cleanroom inc.  The exterior  was completed 2009, located at 53rd and 9th Avenue, New York.  After several delays, the building is now complete.

Cleanroom develops a proposal for the architectural colonization of the free-standing advertising billboard structure. This proposal injects residential program into the otherwise imposed social structure of the advertising billboard and utilizes its material structure as its container.

Raised above the urban landscape on a pedestal, the inhabitant of OARP is isolated within the container of the billboard. Elevated above obstructions, the occupant of OARP obtains a privileged view.

These occupiable billboard structures could potentially pay for themselves through advertising revenues.

The Voss Water bar is made entirely of aluminum and glass Voss bottles. Designed to promote the Voss Water brand, the bar was cut from a digital template by ‘water-jet’ technology to create a seamless, modular kit-of-parts for easy transportation. No connectors or mechanical parts are required for assembly.

We reached the roof level of 802 9th Avenue. The new 6 story glass and steel frame fuses with the old structure, sweeping under the second floor, up the side and over the top of the existing prewar tenement building . This project began two years ago when David Winston and Cleanroom were commissioned to submit conceptual plans to their client, Palazzo Realty. The building is scheduled to be completed this spring.
